Kanuni Sultan Süleyman was born to Selim I. He was born in Trabzon, Turkey, on the cost of the Black Sea.

After the death of his father, Selim I, Suleiman was coronated to the throne. It was said that he was tall, wiry, and delicate in complexion.

In August, 1521, Suleiman captured the city of Belgrade, (now in Serbia). It led to the death of King Louis and the capture of Buda and caused neighboring nations to worry that they would suffer the same fate.

Suleiman defeated King Louis II of Hungary on the 29th of August, 1526. Suleiman only lost 1,500 soldiers while King Louis II lost somewhere between 14,000 and 20,000 soldiers.

Suleiman and the Hadsburgs have battles over Buda. These battles ended with Suleiman winning Buda in the end. Charles V led the Hadsburgs.

Suleiman leads the Ottomans capture the Iraq cities of Tabriz and Baghdad. The capturing took 2 years, 1532 to 1534.

In 1535, Charles V defeated the Ottomans at Tunis. This along with another defeat at Venice forced Suleiman to form an alliance with Francis I of France against Charles V

Suleiman attempts to defeat the Safavid Shah, Tahmasp, but Tahmasp flees while using a scorched earth strategy. Suleiman, along with French allies, made gain in Armenia and secured a lasting presence in the Province of Van.

In 1548, on of Suleimans generals, Piri Reis, captured Aden. Piri Reis continued with great success against the Portuguese.

In 1553, Suleiman began the 3rd campaign in which he lost and then regained Erzurum. He returned Tabriz but kept Baghdad.

Suleiman died at the age of 71. His succesor was Selim II. Altogether he had 7 children.
