Worldview Timeline Final

  • Period: 500 BCE to 500

    Classical Worldview

I chose the painting "The School of Athens" to represent the Classical worldview because I think it emphasizes that value of growth and learning. I also think it represents the art style well and involves one of the great civilizations during the time. It represents the spirit of the Classical worldview very well and has that feeling of wisdom while still being simple.
  • Period: 500 to 1500

    Medieval Worldview

I chose "The Last Judgment" by Giotto di Bondone to represent the Medieval worldview because it shows a clear depiction of how people saw the world during the Middle Ages. It's a very dramatic painting that represents the mindset people had during the time where life is important and everything has a role. It was also made during the Medieval worldview as it was created in 1306 so it shows the art style of the era.
  • Period: 1300 to

    Renaissance Worldview

The art I chose to represent the Renaissance worldview was Michelangelo’s David. It shows how people during the Renaissance valued their abilities. The sculpture of David looks strong and calm. It shows that humans can think and achieve great things. The art style also represents that of the Greeks and Romans which the Renaissance thought highly of.
  • Period: to

    Enlightenment Worldview

The art I chose to represent the Enlightenment worldview was "An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump" by Joseph Wright of Derby. It's a painting that shows people watching a science experiment on a bird which reflects the focus of the Enlightenment which was on reason and discovery. It puts science and curiosity at the center instead of religion or culture. It matches the idea of knowledge and thinking branching from logic which was a big idea during the Enlightenment worldview.
  • Period: to

    Romantic Worldview

The painting I chose to represent the Romantic world view was "Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog" by Caspar David Friedrich. It shows a man standing on a mountain, looking at foggy landscape. It represents the Romantic focus on deep emotion and personal reflection. It shows the Romantic idea that the natural world is powerful and beautiful very well. The painting captures the feeling of awe and wonder, which was very important at the time. It was something bigger than reason or logic.
  • Period: to

    Victorian Worldview

The art I chose to represent the Victorian worldview was "Ophelia" by John Everett Millais. It shows Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet floating in a river while she drowns. It reflects the Victorian interest with beauty and tragedy. The detailed imaging of nature shows the interest in the natural world they had during this worldview. At the same time, the painting shows themes of sadness and morality, which were very important in Victorian culture.
  • Period: to

    Modern Worldview

The art I chose to represent the Modern worldview was "The Persistence of Memory" by Salvador Dalí. It shows melting clocks in a strange landscape. It reflects the modern idea that time and reality aren't fixed in their view. The painting goes against logic and embraces personal interpretation which fits the modern focus on creativity. Its strange quality captures the modern sense of uncertainty and the perspective shifting in the changing world.
  • Period: to

    Post Modern Worldview

The art I chose to represent the Post Modern worldview was "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen." It represents the postmodern worldview because it mixes different music styles, breaking the usual rules of how songs should sound. The meaning of the lyrics aren't clear so they're open to interpretation. It fits the postmodern idea that truth can be confusing or hard to interpret. The song is both serious and playful which shows how postmodern art combines multiple categories like emotion and seriousness.
  • Post Postmodern Worldview

The art I chose to represent the Post Postmodern worldview was "Girl with Balloon" by Banksy. It's a mural and I chose it because it combines different elements like playfulness and lost. The mural shows a girl losing her balloon and it has a childish art style. It mixes the post postmodern idea of combining sincerity with awareness and emotion to create a beautiful mural with a lot of symbolism. The mural is supposed to represent hope through the girl reaching out. It fits the worldview nicely.
