    Germany Blitzkrieg
    Blitzkrieg is the German word for "lightning war". During this battle, Germans used firepower and unorganized war tactics to successfully have a victory on Poland grounds. This type of war was adopted by many other great generals due to the least amount of deaths and military weapons.
  • Germany's Invasian of Poland

    Germany's Invasian of Poland
    In the morning, about 1.5 million German troops invaded Poland in the Baltic Sea. Hilter aimed this attack as a defensive action, but this marked the beginning of WW2. Poland along with its allies Britian, Australia, New Zealand, France and India ordered Germany to back down, but they didn't so they started war.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    This was a code name for Nazi Germany's invasion on the Soviet Union. This was a 5 month battle fought in Russia. Four million soldiers invaded Russia on this day which made this the largest battle in warfare. German's were unable to successfully take over Russia, and therefore it was a Soviet Union defeat.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    In the morning of Dec 7th, Japanese fighter planes attacked the U.S. Naval Base, Pearl Harbor. This was a surprise attack, and therefore it was a Japanese victory since the U.S. was not prepared to fight back. The results of this war was the U.S. Declaring war on Japan. Germany and Italy then declared war on the U.S. therefore starting ww2.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The Allies invaded Normandy, Germany which was occupied by the Nazi's. In the first few hours of this battle it looked like a the Nazi's would win, but it the end it was an Allied victory. However there was a total of about 10,000 Allied deaths. Due to the German defeat, D-Day caused Hitler to promote another battle, the Battle of the Bulge.

    Battle of the Bulge
    This battle started by German forces, which lasted a little over a month ending on January 25, 1945. This battle was caused because the Germans wanted to push the Allied front from France to Belgium. This was an unsuccessful effort by the Germans and this was the last battle started by Hitler.
  • Liberation of concentration camps

    Liberation of concentration camps
    Most the Jews from Poland had already been killed in 1943 by the Germans, however there was still a lot of survivors left by the time the rest of the world found these people. The soviet forces were the first to find the survivors in July 1944. Germans set dead bodies on fire to hide all the horror the camps were really producing. By January 1945 the Soviet Union found more survivors during the "Death March" putting an end to the concentration camps.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    On this day American forces landed on the island of Iwo Jima in hope to take over from the Japanese army. This battle lasted until March 26, 1945 and it was an American victory. This battle caused American to start their three-point plan which was to take over the entire island.
  • VE Day

    VE Day
    On this day the Germans surrendered. This day was an Allied celebration end the war with Germany. Hitler committed suicide on April 30th and his successor, Dönitz, took over and signed an act of military surrender.
  • Potsdam Declaration

    Potsdam Declaration
    The Potsdam was a statement that ended the Japanese army forces to be involved in WWII. U.S. President Truman, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, and the nationalist government of China issued this document. The document said that if Japan did not surrender, they would face great destruction. The document was successful because the Japanese agreed to this and announced it to all of Japan on the release date.
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bombs

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    America became the first country to use atomic bombs during the war. After Germany surrendered, the war was still fought by Allied force against the Soviet Union. The majority of the Soviet Unions surrendered but Japan did not, so therefore the U.S. bombed the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This marked the end of WWII.
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    This was the day that marked the final surrender of WWII. VJ Day is celebrated on September 2 because on this day a formal surrender at Tokyo Bay took place. This was the day that President Truman declared to be VJ Day.
