  • German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact

    On August 23, 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union signed a nonagression pact. In it stated that Germany and theUSSR would not go to war on eachother. Also, USSR would get Finalnd, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and some of Poland while Germany would get the rest of Poland. This is signifigant because Germany later went against the pacts and invaded USSR.
  • Germany's Attack on Poland

    On September 1, 1939 Hitler and Germany tried a new form of warfare called a blitzkreig- which is a surprise attack using heavy atrillery and planes- on Poland. Their capital, Warsaw, crumbled and France and Britian officially declared war on Germany. This is signifigant because this is when war stared to break out.

    The Phony War

    The Phony War was a time spent mobilizing troops on both the Allied and the German sides. This all ended when Germany surprise attacked Denmark and Norway and they both fell.
  • Battle of Dunkirk

    After capturing Denmark and Norway, German troops moved towards Belgium and they surrendered. Franch troops escaped towards the port city of Dunkirk where, over the course of weeks, British military and civilian ships brought French troops across the English Channel towards safety.
  • Italy Joins Hitler

    On June, 10, Mussolini, the leader of Italy, joins Germany in the conquest on France. They also declared war on Britain and France. Italy attacked France from the South part while Germany attacked the North.

    Battle of Britain

    During the Battle of Britain, Germany was trying to invade and conquer Britain. It first started out as an air battle between the German Luftwaffe and the British Air Force.
  • Germany and Italy's Attack on Egypt

    Italy wanted to take over Egypt and the Suez Canal because there were rich oil fields. After his first attack, the Allies stepped in and pushed them back. Then Germany was sent in to "bail" Italy out and they pushed the Allies out.
  • Hitler Invades Yugoslavia and Greece

    On Hitler's way to invade the USSR, he wanted to capture some of the countries in the Balkans. He first took down Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary with ease and then he took over Yugoslavia and Greece in a matter of days.
  • Pearl Harbor

    On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked the US military base in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor. It was what directly influenced the United States to enter the war despite their previous policy of isolationism.
  • The Invasion of Sicily

    During this invasion, the Allies had a strong army and the Germans fought back hard before retreating. When Sicily was captured, Mussolini's friends and followers turned on him and he was arrested.
  • D-Day

    Led by Dwight Eisenhower, the Allied troops invaded Normandy, which is an area of France. It was code-named Operation Overload. After about a month of fighting they libersated France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and much of the Netherlands.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima is an island off of Japan and had two airfields that were very important. It was a very fierce battle resulting in 2,400 casulaties on both sides in just the first day. After about a month of fighting, the Alllies won.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Okinawa is also a Japanese iskand that is very close to Japan. This was a very important battle because Okinawa was very close to Japan which meant if the Allies won then they could be close enough to invade. The Allies ended up winning.
  • Hilter's Surrender

    After the Soviets surronded Berlin from the East, and the other Allies from the Southwest, Hilter knew there was no recovering. In the underground headquarters, Hitler blamed the Jewish people and his generals for Germany's defeat, he killed himself, thus surrendering to the Allies.
  • Hiroshima

    The United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese town of Hiroshima. This was pretty much the end of World War Two in the Pacific. It killed 73,000 most of them civilians. The project of created the atomic boms was code named the Manhattan Project ans was very top secret.
