    Nazi-Soviet Non Aggression Pact
    Stalin and Hitler vowed not to interfere with each other's military business. No military act against each other for the next 10 years. But later on, Hitler stabbed Stalin in the back and invaded the Soviet Union. Hitler sent his best troops. Russia wasn't ready for war so Germany took over. That when Russia retaliated against Germany.
    The agreement lasted from August 23, 1939- June 19, 1941
  • Miracle of Dunkirk

    Miracle of Dunkirk
    The evacuation of thousands of Allied troops was possible because of the fog that was pinned to the ground giving them a chance to escape. A call went out to the British vessels to come and rescue them from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk France. All equipment was left behind. This prevented Hitler from winning the war, this was Hitler's first mistake. Hitler reacted too late, and his supply line was at the beach but there were no foot soldiers to patrol the area.

  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    Germans released a savage air attack on the British, bombing their airfields and supply factories. By August 2000 German aircraft were in the air bombing Britain. Hitler's mistake was that he stopped bombing their airfields and started to bomb the cities. This gave the RAF a chance to rebuild and attack Germany. Churchill would have passion speeches on the radio. Britain won because of radar, the salvaging of planes and German hostages.

    Operation Barbarossa Begins
    Hitler's mistake was attacking the Soviet Union.After Hitlers breaking of the Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact, Russia was now against Germany. When Germans invaded Russia, they just kept retreating back and burning everything leaving nothing for Nazi. At first, Russia was unable to stop Germany and suffered 1 million casualties but was then able to recover because Russia fought back. Nazis were unprepared for the weather, soldiers froze, starved, and were fatigue.

    Start of the War in Pacific Theater
    Japan is aggressive because the US banned the exports of oil and steel because of the expansion of their empire.So they bombed a naval base known as Pearl Harbor. The US declared war on Japan, so Germany and Itlay declare war on the US because they are allies. Canada also joins the war because Japan takes over a British colony, known as Hong Kong (see the invasion of Hong Kong).

  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japan's worry was the US navy fleet in Hawaii. They planned a surprise attack. FDR knew about this attack but let it happen because this gave the US an excuse to join the war. The US wanted to join because they wanted to stop the communist expansion of Japan's Empire. Japan attacked and after two hours, 3500 Americans were wounded or killed. They sank 18 ships and when the US Arizona battleship exploded and sank, 1177 lives were lost. Both Canda and US declared war on Japan.
  • Invasion of Hong Kong

    Invasion of Hong Kong
    A day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Candian troops were sent to guard Hong Kong against invading Japanese soldiers. Canadians were inexperienced because it was the first WWll land battle. Canadians refused to surrender, but soon they were outnumbered by the Japanese and were taken as prisoners. The Allied soldiers were taken to torture camps, where most of them died from disease, starvation, and brutality of the Japanese.
    This battle lasted from Dec 8,1941-Dec 25,1941.
  • Dieppe Raid

    Dieppe Raid
    Canadian soldiers were picked up from England for a raid at a French port of Dieppe. The troops had been training for 3 years, there were 5000 Canadian troops ready to attack Dieppe. Their idea was to test the German forces, the plan was to go in with Allied troops with protection from the Air force bombers and tanks. Unfortuanlty the Germans got to them before and met the Canadian troops at sea. The plan failed, but the Allies learned from their mistakes at Dieppe.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Germans fought against the Russians for the city of Stalingrad. It was the strategic city on the Volga river in Russia. Hitler lost the battle and over 500 000 Germans were killed or taken as prisoners. By the Autumn of 1943, Germany had 2.5 million soldiers facing 5.5 million Russian soldiers.

    Allied Troops Lands in Sillcy
    Allies fought and took Siclly from Germans. Idea was to take off pressure and pull Germans out of north-western Europe. When the battle began, they had to fight for every meter of land because Germans refused to give up. Allies were able to drive out the naval, air, and land forces, leaving the Mediterranean sea open. Later Italian government surrenders leaving the Germans to take over. This was a setback for Hitler's upcoming invasion. This weakened and reduced Germans strength in Eastern Front
  • Battle of Ortona

    Battle of Ortona
    Canadian forces were ordered to capture Ortona. The streets of village Ortona were soo small that the tanks could not fit, that they fought in houses. They literally fought door to door. Candian casualties were high because of the arising of disease and the battle fatigue of soldiers. Allied troops won the battle and kept pushing the German troops up.
    This battle lasted from December 20, 1943-December 28, 1943.
  • D-day

    D-day
    The Allies learned their lessons from their mistakes at the Dieppe Raid. This time there was better planning, communication, and training. This was the largest seaborne invasion in history thus leading to the opening of the second front against Germany in Western Europe. Pushing the Germans in and bringing WWll to an end.A

    V-E Day (Victory in Europe)
    Germany formally surrendered unconditionally to the Allies. The Nazi-Germany gave up all of their military forces after the sucicide of Adolf Hitler during the Battle of Berlin.
  • Hiroshama (Little Boy)

    Hiroshama (Little Boy)
    The Enola Gay was called. They set out to Hiroshima after they had taken their orders. At 8:45 am the atomic bomb was dropped on the city. They decided to bomb the city because of its military, industrial significance and dense population of citizens. Their thought was that by dropping it, it would do the maximum damage.

    Nagasaki (fat man)
    An atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki at 11:02 am. By noon, the Emporer had directly spoken to his people to inform them of their unconditional surrender to the Allies.
