    Germany invaded Poland behind Hitler on September 1, 1939. They took over Poland and were given an ultimatum by Britain and France. Germany went against this and Britain and France declared war on Germany two days later.

    This was a military battle where the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm defended the United Kingdom. It was fought against Nazi air force at a large-scale. This was the first big battle fought completely by air forces.

    This was where Germany and the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union. This is also known as Operation Barbarossa. A total of 186,452 soldiers died fighting for Germany.
  • Pearl Harbor

    This was a surprise military attack by the Japanese on the United States. They attacked the naval base in Honolulu, Hawaii. This attacked killed over 2,400 people and destroyed/damaged 19 U.S. Navy ships.

    Holocaust

    This was the genocide of Jews during World War II. Nazi Germany (led by Hitler) killed six million Jews in Europe. This was around 66 percent of the European Jewish population. The majority of the killings took place between 1941 and 1945.
