Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, in the largest German military operation of World War II. Hitler decided to attack the Soviet Union within the following year just a week after German conquered France and the Low Countries. On December 18, 1940, he signed Directive 21, the first operational, code-named Operation "Barbarossa", order for the invasion of the Soviet Union.

Japan sent a surprise attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and has declared war on Britain and the United States. On 8 December, 1941, United Stated declared war on Japan.

The Japanese took a good plan on the battle in Hong Kong. On December 17, the Japanese demanded the surrender of Hong Kong. The suggestion was flatly refused. The next day, invading troops flooded ashore, pushing through the machine-gun fire of the defenders, taking the high ground and overwhelming the Allied soldiers.

The attack upon Dieppe took place on August 19, 1942. The troops involved with total of 6,000 Allied soldiers which 5,000 were Canadians, the rest are British Commanders and 50 American Rangers.

By December, the advancing Allied armies had reached the historic seaport of Ortona, on Italy's Adriatic coast.Canadian army facing their toughest test, fighting an urban battle street by street which later was called "Canada's Stalingrad". Finally, on December 28th, the last remaining German troops retreated or surrendered. Their supplies had been used up, and they knew reinforcements wouldn't be arriving.

On 6th and 9th of August,1945, two atomic bomb were dropped on the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan by United States.Within the first two to four months of the bombings, the acute effects killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki, with roughly half of the deaths in each city occurring on the first day.
