  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    The Battle of Britain was an air battle between Germany and Britain. This battle was fought in the Britain Isles.During the battle, Germany attacked Britain and its cities. Germany wanted to knock out the British Royal Air Force so that Germany could invade Britain by sea. This battle was won by Great Britain which raised confidence of the Allies. After the battle, Germany moved on to conquer the Soviet Union.

    Operation Barbarossa
    Germany launched a massive attack on the Soviet Union and the Allies. Germany destroyed 4,000 aircrafts. They also caputerd and killed 600,000 people. This happened in Russia becuase Hitler wanted to Soviet resources like oil. More than 800,000 killed and over 6 million people were captured and injured. Hitler failed his operation.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked. Japan bombed the United States military naval base in Oahu, Hawaii. 2,400 American people died, two American ships sunk and multiple planes and ships were destroyed. Japan did this because Japan was upset that the United States has stopped trade with Japan and froze money asstes of Japan in American banks. After Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan and joined World War II.

    Bataan Death March
    The Japanese had to transport the American and Filipino prisoners to prison camps and naval ports but they lacked sufficient transportation, food, or medical supplies. Filipino and Allied prisoners were brutally abused and demonlished during the walk. Japanese had the American and Filipino prisoners march to old training camps. The march happended in the Philippines and 21,000 people died.

    Operation Overlord
    On June 6, 1944 the Allies invaded Normandy Franc. Their goal of Operation Overlord was to land on the Beaches of Normandy, land parachutes with men behind the beaches to do specific tasks to get ready for the forces landing in Normandy, bring in supplies and weapons with ammunition, defeat the Nazis in the Normandy region. This operation happened in France. The Allies won and France was liberated.

    At Battle of the Bulge Germany tried to regain territory. Germany, United Sates, and United Kingdom were fighting becuase of split allie lines and becuase of forced negotiated peace. The battle happened in Belgium, Luxemberg, and Germany. This is battle is seen as Hitler's last major offensive in the war. Battle of the Bulge was from December 16, 1944-January 25, 1945

    Yalta Confernce
    In Crimea, Ukraine, Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin met to confirm a postwar conference on what would happen to Europe after World War II. The meeting was intended to discuss the restablished nation torn. Churchill, Roosevelt, adn Stalin agreed to form a United Nations, how to divide up Berlin between the Allies, and Stalin agreed to enter war in Japan to help the United States.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The United States' armed forces fought for and captured the island Iwo Jima becuase Japan was using it as a base to launch air attacks on the United States. Capturing the island from Japan became the objective for the United States. The Uinted States won. Iwo Jima became a base and fueling station for planes heading to Japan. The Battle of Iwo Jima was from February 19-March 26, 1945.

    V-E Day stands for "Victory in Europe" Day. On this day the Nazi Party surrendered to the Allies.The war ended in Europe because of this. Everyone was extremely happy this day.
  • Atomic Bomb Drop

    Atomic Bomb Drop
    The United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. 2,000 people were injured. The United States dropped the atomic bombs because they wanted to end the war in Japan. The United States got what they wanted, the bombs caused the war to end in Japan. 66,000 poeple were killed in Hiroshima out of a population of 225,000 people and 60,000 were killed in Nagasaki.

    V-J Day stands for "Victory in Japan" Day. V-J Day is a day where everyone in the United States was celebrating the victory over Japan. The celebration was in Times Square, New York City, New York. The atomic bombs caused this celebration because without the bombs the war would have probably still be going on for a few more years.
