    Battle of Britain
    German forces planned to invade Britain and gain control of the skies over the British Channel. The Germans bombed many targets but lost over 1,700 planes. British forces held strong and were able to fend of the German attack
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japanese planes launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor, killing around 2,500 people. The attack shot Americans into World War II as a member of the Allied forces.
  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    A Japanese assault on the Philippines forced U.S. forces to retreat and eventually surrender in Bataan. Captured soldiers were then forced to march 55 miles up the Bataan Peninsula to a railway that took them inland where they were forced to walk and additional 8 more miles. Thousands died of starvation and exhaustion during the March.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    Japanese forces launched an attack on the U.S. military base of Midway hoping to destroy the Navy and push U.S. forces back to California. However, U.S. forces concetrated their forces at Midway and dealt Japan a decisive defeat.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    U.S. Forces storm the beaches of Normandy, France, paving the way for the liberation of France and the defeat of Nazi Germany. However, success came at a high cost. Hundreds of soldiers were gunned down by German machinegun nests and mortars.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    German forces massed near the Ardennes to launch a major counter offensive against Allied forces. The German offensive caught U.S. troops by surprise and due to poor weather, U.S. forces could not depend on its air superiority. Once the skies cleared, Allied bombers destroyed German targets and U.S. troops received reinforcements. The counter offensive had failed.
  • VE Day

    VE Day
    Allied forces had reached Berlin and waged an all out assault on the capital. Shortly after, Hitler and his associates committed suicide, ending the Third Reich. The war in Europe was over.
  • Dropping the Atomic Bomb

    Dropping the Atomic Bomb
    In an effort to end the war in Japan, two atomic bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The two bombs effectively ended the war in Japan.

    In response to the dropping of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki as well as Russia declaring war on Japan, Japan was forced to surrender to Allied Forces.
