  • The Battle of Britain

    This was a military campaign for WWII. Germany lost control over the skies of southern England, which caused Hitler to lose control. The battle was won by the Royal Air Force. This is significant because it stopped Germany from taking control. This ended on October 31, 1940
  • The Bombing of Pearl Harbor

    This is what started WWII. The Japanese decided to attack Pearl Harbor because it would cripple our US military.
  • The Battle of Midway

    The Japanese lost four carriers and many trained pilots, further crippling their ability to fight the US. This ended on June 7, 1942
  • The Battle of Stalingrad

    The Soviet Union beat the German army, and Germany lost control of that area in southern Russia. This ended on February 2, 1942
  • Operation Torch

    The British secured the area of North Africa, and also allowed American armed forces to begin their fight against Germany. This ended on November 16, 1942.
  • Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Program

    It was a program established by the Allies to protect war areas from WWII. They returned stolen pieces of art from the nazis to the rightful owners.
  • The Battle of Kursk

    Another battle between Germany and the Soviet Union in the southwest part of Russia. It was the largest tank battle in history. It marked the end of any capability of offense the Germans had. This ended on August 23, 1943.
  • D-Day

    The Normandy landings. It is when the land, air, and sea allied armies all came together to defeat Nazi Germany in the Second World War. This was the largest invasion in the history of warfare.
  • The Battle of the Bulge

    This was the largest and deadliest battle in WWII. This is when the Germans did a surprise attack on the allied forces. Germany did not have the resources that the allied forces had, and therefore they lost. This ended on January 25, 1945.
  • The Battle of Iwo Jima

    Our marines and navy captured Iwo Jima which meant they took control of two airfields from the imperial Japanese army. This ended on March 26, 1945
  • The Battle of Okinawa

    This was a land, sea, and air battle. By taking control of this island, the US was able to gain more control of the Japanese army. This ended on September 7, 1945.
  • The Death of FDR

    Franklin D. Roosevelt died of a stroke. He was sitting for a portrait when he had the stroke. He was running for his fourth term of presidency. He was 63 years old.
  • The Death of Adolf Hitler

    Adolf Hitler committed suicide when the Soviet troops stormed Berlin searching for him. No one knows where his ashes were scattered. This was a happy day. He was 56 years old.
  • Atomic Bombing Nagasaki

    This further depleted Japan's resources. It was an atomic bombing that destroyed the city of Nagasaki and the civilians who lived there. This caused the Japanese to finally surrender to the Allies.
  • Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima

    Only use of nuclear weapons in conflict to this day. An atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese by the Allied forces. This affected not only their military but affected civilians. It burnt down about 70% of all buildings.
