    Operation Barbarossa was the name of the German invasion of the Soviet Union. All went well in the beginning of the operation, the Germans quickly defeated the Soviets at every battle, but what they didn't yet realize is that as the Red Army retreated they burned all the crops and other necessities making it to where as the Nazis made their advance further to Moscow they would be low on supplies and unable to get more in a timely manner, causing counteroffencives in the winter of 1941. <a href=

    The turning point of the European war occured in southern Russia while Germany invaded the USSR. The Soviet Army held their ground until winter started setting in and the Germans supplies ran thin. After being warned what the projected casualties would be in an invasion of Japan Truman decided to end the war quickly by using these new weapons. Thus giving the green light to drop the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima then the second on Nagasaki three days later.
