    Involved Russia and Germany. Happened in city of Stalingrad (Volograd). 250,000 casualities from Russia and Germany. Russia + Soviet army won. Humiliation of Hitler because he thought that Germny was undefeatable.

    Allies and Japan. Occured in Soloman Island/Guadalcanal Island. Up to 7,000 Americans died and 31,000 Japanese died. United States/ Allies won. United States took back the Island.

    This was the first time Britian and America worked together on an invasion plan. America military was confident about landing in france, but Britian got their way when Roosevelt supported Churchills request that the allies should prepare for North America.

    Conference between Franklin Roosevelt ( U.S president), Winston Churchill (British prime minister) and Joseph Stalin (Soveit premier) in Tehran Iran. They talked about their military plans to go against Germany and Japan. This conference planned out how WW2 would go. They knew how to support eachother whent he war was happening.

    Germany and America were involved. Place: Wallonia in Belgium, France. Thee was 75,000 U.S casualities, Germany lost up to 100,000. Allies won ( America + British Army). This was an attempt to push allie's fron line west.

    The trials were held in Germany. The criminals were convicted of crimes against humanity and peace. They brought Nazi war criminals to justice. With this the court knew how to deal with futer crimes. It also established the international court permanently.

    Second wartime meeting between Winston Churchill (Bristish Prime Minister), Joseph Stalin (Soviet Premier) and Franklin Rossevelt (U.S President) toward the end of WW2. They demanded for uncondiyional surrender from Germany.
    They plan what to do with the world since WW2 ended. Permitted free elections. Also lead into Cold War.

    United Sates and Japan. United States attacked Iwo Jima islands in Japan. American casualities exceed Japanese, 26,000 to 22,000 at the most. United States victory. This provided an airbase for Japanese fighter planes.

    Allied forces and Japan were involved. It was a Pacific Island battle. Part of American 3 point plan to win war in the east. United States won. Many Okinawan civilians died, including 72,000 Americans and 100,000 Japanese casualities.

    Hitler commited suicide by swallowing a cyanide pill and shooting himself in the head. He killed himself because Germany unconditional surrendered and it ended his dreams of being a 1,000 year reich.

    Victory in Europe Day. This is a holiday. It marks the formal acceptance by the allies of WW2 of Nazi Germany surrender becuase of armed forces.

    United States drops atomic bomb on Japanese city of Hiroshima. U.S was going to drop it on Germany, but Germeny was already defeated. They dropped it on JApan instead but they were still in a raging war.
    United States was first nation to use atomic weapons. It was end on WW2. It ignited the Cold War.

    Nagasaki was a shipbuilding center, it was intended for destruction. This leade to the Manhatton project from General Leslie R. Groves.

    Known as Victory over Japan Day. News of the surrender of Germnay spread across and around the world. Ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay.
    Celebration of the end of ww2.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    This was a collective defense treaty among the Soviets and seven Soviet satelite states within central and eastern Europe. This put Soviets in command on armed forces. So the Soveits made the decisions in this area until 1991.
