  • Pearl Harbor

    The U.S. had a trade embargo on Japan. Japan did not likes this. Japan wanted to expand throughout the pacific so they bombed Pearl Harbor.

  • Battle of the Coral Sea

    Prior to this battle, the Japanese were winning every battle and taking over the pacific. The U.S. and Australia stopped Japan from invading. Japan won the battle but the Allies were able to stop Japan invading.
  • Battle of Midway

    Admiral Chester Nimitz intercepted a Japanese code. The U.S. then launched a surprise attack on Japan at Pacific island called Midway. The U.S. were successful in the battle
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Germans violated nonaggression with the Soviet Union. Hitler wanted the oil fields. Germans nearly won but Soviets ended up winning. From this point they started moving west towards Germany.
  • Battle of the Atlantic

    Germany used U boats to sink the Allies ships. The Allies began using convoys to protect the ships. Germany was successful but the Allies has the upper hand
  • D-Day

    Soviet Union was pushing into Poland and the Allies were pushing North in Italy. They had 60 miles of beach and it was the largest land-sea-air operation in history.
  • France freed

    France was freed by Nazi control
  • Battle of Bulge

    German tanks broke american lines. They fought in Belgium. America won, but it was a close battle
  • Yalta Confrence

    Took place before the war was over. This set up the United Nations.
  • Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima was an island in the Pacific that was critical for the U.S. to win. They did win
  • F.D.R. Dies

    At the beginning of his 4th term President Franklin D. Roosevelt passes away. Harry s. Truman, as Vice-President, takes the role as president
  • V-E Day

    General E. accepted a surrender by the Third Reich. V-E Day: Victory in Europe day.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Japan's last defensive stronghold. Even though Japan thought they would win, the U.S. did
  • Potsdam

    Truman and Stalin met in Potsdam, Germany and eliminated the Nazi regime. They divided Germany into 4 sections that were occupied by France, Britain, U.S. and the Soviet Union. Berlin was divided up in East. Japan must "unconditionally surrender"
  • Manhattan Project

    200 000 Japanese died because of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
  • V-J Day

    Japan surrenders. V-J Day: Victory in Japan day
  • Nuremberg Trials

    Over 23 nations tried Nazi war criminals in Nuremberg, Germany. 12 of the 22 defendants were sentenced to death. 200 others were found guilty, but given a lesser sentence
