The Fall of France began in the 1940's. France, anticipating germany's advance against the country, created fortified bunkers to protect it. It's man made border was thought to be impenatrable, but there were two "weak spots". One being on the french belgium border, since belgium was an impartial country at the time germany passed through it and got into France. Thus taking down France from the inside.

The Battle of Moscow was code named operation typhoon by the Germans. The goal of the german operation was to capture that capital of Russia in hopes that the whole country will fall into despair and be unable to continue because of it. Russians had little force compared to the Germans, but managed to defend their country and cause Germany to sustain significant damage

During the attack on Pearl Harbor the Japanese attacked a naval base in Hawaii, killing 2,333 americans. Also destroying 188 aircraft and 5 U.S, battleships. Japan did not lose nearly as much with only 65 men injured or killed in total.

http://The Battle of Guadalcanal was the first big event apart of the Pacific theater of war. Some of the Japanese were stationed in the Guadalcanal, in the Solomon Islands near Australia. The U.S. attacked and took control of a base there and war broke out. Both sides suffered many deaths, but Japan had a lot more. Because of this they had to retreat.

The Battle of Stalingrad was when Russia successfully defended its city on its southern side. Germany and it's allies fought the soviet union to gain control of Stalingrad because it would help them gain more ground and advance on more places. It was an essential industrial city for Russia, so they stood their ground and won. It is now still celebrated as a great victory in Russia.

The Battle of Leyte Gulf.General MacArthur was in charge of Leyte at the time. He had to deploy all resources in order to fight the Japanese who attached from other islands close by. it ended in an american victory, but not after days of fighting, mainly air and naval attacks because it was on a Gulf. Although it was a very short battle there were still 15,584 casualties in the U.S. alone.
