    Hitler's army invaded Poland with the help of the Soviet Union. They were able to invade with great strategies, and invading from all sides. He wanted to invade Poland first to prepare to invade the west and gain trust in the Soviet Union. This invasion also officially started WW2. At the end of this invasion 66,000 Polish soldiers were killed, 133,700 to 200,00 wounded and 694,000 were taken as prisoners.

    On April 30, 1945, Hitler committed suicide. On May 5, German forces in North-West Europe surrendered. Victory in Europe, or VE, Day was officially celebrated three days later.In Germany, where the Canadian Army fought right to the last day, soldiers were too relieved to celebrate very much. This island of Iwo Jima was a strategic location because the US needed a place for frighter planes and bombs to land and take off when attacking Japan. After a straggering los of life on Iwo Jima American military leaderss scrambled to justify invasion. American losses included 5,400 dead 17400 wounded.

At the end 100,00 Japanese troops were killed, 7,000 were taken as prisoners and 4,000 aircrafts were lost. For the Americans 12,000 were killed & 800 aircrafts were lost.

    An american bomber named Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb over a japanese city. It immediately killed around 80,000 people. More people died a few days later because of the radioation of the bomb. The US were the first to use an atomic bomb during the war. The impact of this event was that japan surrendered after the bombs were dropped.
