Japan invaded China due essentialy to Japan's desire to be an imperial power. There was both economic and a militaristic element to the desire.The national government was forced to move inland. During the war between 20 and 30 million soliders and civillians died. Almost every family and community was affected by war. -
German Blitzkreig
To start off Blitzkreig is a german term for “lightning war”. Blitzkreig is a designed military attack to cause disorganization among enemy forces with concentrated firepower and moblie forces. Germany's Invasion of Poland
Hitler's army invaded Poland with the help of the Soviet Union. They were able to invade with great strategies, and invading from all sides. He wanted to invade Poland first to prepare to invade the west and gain trust in the Soviet Union. This invasion also officially started WW2. At the end of this invasion 66,000 Polish soldiers were killed, 133,700 to 200,00 wounded and 694,000 were taken as prisoners.

VE Day
On April 30, 1945, Hitler committed suicide. On May 5, German forces in North-West Europe surrendered. Victory in Europe, or VE, Day was officially celebrated three days later.In Germany, where the Canadian Army fought right to the last day, soldiers were too relieved to celebrate very much. In Paris and London, Canadians joined people in the streets in an outpouring of emotion. In Toronto, thousands danced in the streets while three Mosquito aircraft dropped tickertape overhead.

Operation Barbarossa
In july 1942 nazi army bombs the soviet city of stralingrad, launching one of the bloodiest battles history. Opertation Babarossa was launched by hitler to invade france following annexation of the sudetenland in 1939. Also to gain control of rich resources that were under the control of the USSR... Operation Gomorrah
Operation Gomorrah was an aerial bombing campaign that occured in the European theater of operations during world war 2. It destroyed a significant percentage of the city of Hamburg. The raids severely shook the Nazi leader-ship, leading Hitler to be concerned that similar raids on other cities could force Germany out of war. -

On june 6th 1944, the allied powers landed on the beaches of normandy france. They freed western europe from the nazi and their control. D-day happened so that WWII would end. Operation Thunderclap
An operation to bomb the cities on the east side of Germany by the allied command. Dresden was most affected and is known for this operation because 60,000 civilians were killed. This operation was made to cause confusion to Germany & hopefully end the war. Because of this operation 50,000 lives were lost.

Battle of iwo jima
one third of all Marine losses during wolrd war 2 happened at Iwo Jimait was only large engagement of the war which allied forces suffered more casualties. This island of Iwo Jima was a strategic location because the US needed a place for frighter planes and bombs to land and take off when attacking Japan. After a straggering los of life on Iwo Jima American military leaderss scrambled to justify invasion. American losses included 5,400 dead 17400 wounded. -

The American army wanted to take over Okinawa because they wanted to gain territory, they wanted to uses the bases as their own & wanted to cut off supplies to the enemy. At the end 100,00 Japanese troops were killed, 7,000 were taken as prisoners and 4,000 aircrafts were lost. For the Americans 12,000 were killed & 800 aircrafts were lost. -

Dropping of the atomic bombs
An american bomber named Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb over a japanese city. It immediately killed around 80,000 people. More people died a few days later because of the radioation of the bomb. The US were the first to use an atomic bomb during the war. The impact of this event was that japan surrendered after the bombs were dropped.
