    Executive Order 9066
    This order instructed that all people deemed a threat to national security living in California, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington were to be evacuated It was issued by President Roosevelt after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Over the next six months over 100,000 people of Japanese ancestory were relocated to internment camps.
  • The Bataan March

    The Bataan March
    The Bataan March started on April 9, 1942. It was the march of about 70,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war, that were told to march to Balanga because the Japanese were unprepared for such a large number of prisoners. Many of the prisoners died during the march due to heat or exhaustion.

    D-Day was the invasion of Normandy beach. The operation was led by Dwight D. Eisenhower, who later became president. More than 9,00 Allied troops were killed or wounded. The Allied troops were invading Normandy beach so they could free Europe from Germany.

    IN January of 1945 the Soviet Army liberated more than 7,000 prisoners from the Auschwitz concentration camp in Germany. These prisoners were mostly sick and dying, and were supposed to be executed before the Soviet Army had reached Auschwitz to liberate them.

    Two flags were raised on Mount Suribachi, the highest point on the island of Iwo Jima, the first was decided to be too small so it was replaced with a bigger one. One of the six men who raised the flag was told if he got to the top to raise the first flag. Three of the six men who raised the flag died in battle at Iwo Jima.
