    He and his family lived in an old house in Cornwall. His mother was a suffragist, and his father was a teacher. Thanks to his father, Golding recieved an early education. When he was twelve ,he attempted to write a novel, but was frustrated when he couldn't. He went through primary schol and ended up attending college eventually.

    William studied English and literature at brasenose college in oxford university. While at college he learned many things that would drive him to publish his first book in 1934. The book was a poetry book called "Poems".

    Teaching days

    Following in his fathers footsteps, Golding first began to teach English and philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth's school located in Salisbury. Golding temporarily abandoned Teaching for six years when he joined the navy, but he came back and continued on for quite a number of years. While Golding taught, he also wrote his novels, plays, short stories, and more, including Lord of the flies. When he taught unruly boys, it brought him the idea of boys in Lord of the flies, and how they turned unruly.

    Golding usually spent time on a boat for the Navy, and he fought in many naval battles in WWII. He eventually became a lieutentant. During war, Golding began to see the dark evil side of humanity, how everyone can produce evil and go savage. This is another concept that he incorporated in Lord of the flies.
