    William started teaching in English and Philosophy, folloing his father foot steps. He worked at Bishop wordworth's school. Before he worked in a settement house and theater.

    He fought in the war and was placed in command of a rocket lanching craft. After the war he went back to teaching and writing. His expireance was material for his books.

    He left teaching to serve in the Royal Navy. He spent 6 years on a boat and seven months in New York where he assested Lord Cherwell at the naval reasearch establishment.

    Golding combined his perception of people he learned duning his years of teaching and war with his years in the navy. Even though "lord of the flies" was not his first book, it was the first to be published after being rejected by 21 publishers.
