William Golding was born on the 19th of September in the year 1911. He was born in Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall, England.

William unsuccessfully tried to write a novel at age 12. This was an outlet in bullying his peers. He described his childhood of him being a brat.

A year before he graduated, William published his first book. It was a book of poems titled "poems".

William decided to follow his father's footsteps and became a teacher. He became an English teacher and a philosophy teacher.

In 1940, William temporarily stopped teaching to join the Royal Navy. He fought in world war 2 and was in the royal navy for 6 more years.

After world war 2, William went back to teaching. Even though he loved to sail and loved the sea, he decided to teach English and be a writer.

After 21 rejections, he published his first novel. This novel was titled, "Lord of The Flies" which is about a group of boys on a desserted island after a plane wreck.

A year before this, Golding retired from teaching. Peter Brook made a movie adaption of William's book "Lord of the Flies".

Golding was 73 when he won his first noble prize. The noble prize was awarded to him for literature.

Just 5 years later, Golding was knighted by England’s Queen Elizabeth II.

A new version of Lord of the Flies Came out during spring of 1990. This new movie brought the book back to attention to readers.

During the summer of 1993, Golding passed away leaving his two children and wife. William died of a heart attack in Perranarworthal, Cornwall.
