in an effort to reacaptuer New york the british 1st drove washington off long island, then from lower harmlem. Washinton retreated to white plains where he was able to hold off the british. they eventully outmonervered him and forced him to retreat to new jersey. -

the americans escaped cornwallis's encirculing move, at princeton new jersery. -

this was a major tuning point for they war. the americans not only won but the french and spain had become allies with the americans in this battle. -

out number more than 2-to-1 general cornwallis and his army faut for 3 days until finaly surrendering to general washington. cornwallis was a pretty high general so his surrender was signified as britian's surrender. yorktown was officaly the last battle of the independence war. -
treaty of paris 1783
stated that america now owened all land east of mississippi river and they had to give back all land taken from the loyalist.
