  • USS "President" fires at HMS "Little Belt"

    USS "President" fires at HMS "Little Belt"
    Before the war even started, US and British ships fought an hour long battle on May 16th of 1811. At the end of it, Little Belt had suffered great damage and 32 casualties.
  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    Battle of Tippecanoe
    Battle fought between American soldiers and Native Americans. The Shawnee Chief organized a group to fight against the many pilgrims coming into their land. The two established a cease fire, the idea coming from the Natives. They did not intend on keeping this though and came to kill the Americans. After fighting a 2 hour long battle, the surviving natives retreated after they were no match for the fire and manpower the colonists had.

    US declares war on Great Britain
    The US had finally reached their limit with Great Britain and officially declared war.
  • Battle of Beaver Dams

    Battle of Beaver Dams
    American troops marched to surprise British troops at Beaver Dams. However, Laura Secord found out about this and set off to tell the British. Once the American troops reached the British they were ambushed by indigenous warriors and surrendered.
  • Battle of Lake Erie

    Battle of Lake Erie
    On this day American Naval forces attacked the British Naval forces on Lake Erie. The colonists forced the commander of the British ships to surrender. This allowed the US to keep control of the region for the remainder of the war.
  • Battle of Chippawa

    Battle of Chippawa
    This battle started when the US established the "Camps of Instruction" to teach the American troops how to fight. Then, on July 5th the British troops surprise attacked the US troops. Expecting them to be inexperienced and without training, the British troops weren't worried. However, the US had been teaching their soldiers how to fight. After the battle was over the British troops retreated to Fort George.

    Burning of Washington, DC
    British troops stormed into Washington, DC to set fire to important US buildings. However, this didn't have the effect they wanted it to because it rallied more of the US to be against Great Britain.
  • Battle of Lake Champlain

    Battle of Lake Champlain
    This battle was a very decisive moment in the war. With the American win it saved them from conquest. It also weakened British claims for land for the Treaty of Ghent
  • Treaty of Ghent is signed

    Treaty of Ghent is signed
    This treaty was an ending of the war between the two countries. It made sure all conquered territory was returned and planned to establish a boundary for the US and Canada.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    British lost when the attacked American forces hidden within the land. The British had far more casualties and resulted in a US victory. Seen as a symbol of "American democracy" against the controlling Great Britain.
