    Impressment of Soldiers

    -The impressment of soldiers was the forceful recruitment of United States soldiers onto British vessels. -The impressment was done because Britain/France believed that resources or supplies were being delivered to the enemy, and acted as a way of preventing that.
  • Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality

    -Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality was a way of remaining neutral in the conflict between France and Great Britain, not wanting to get dragged into the war. -Being dragged into the war would also react negatively for the economy of the United States.
  • Jay Treaty

    -The Jay Treaty was a treaty between the United States and Britain to mend their relationships and any bad blood following their independence from Britain. -The French were not supportive of this however, as it made it seem that the United States was favoring Britain in the ongoing conflict they had with France.
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    -Washington's farewell address was his final word to the people of the United States before leaving office. -He warned of future issues such as getting too focused on foreign affairs, and splitting into political parties.

    -The Chesapeake-Leopard Affair was a naval engagement between a British and American ships.

    -The Embargo Act of 1807 was an embargo that blocked trading with foreign nations for anyone in the United States. -The Embargo would ultimately be reversed because of how drastically negative the effects of it were.

    -The War Hawks were a group of young people elected to the Congress of the United States. -They pressed for war against the British in the United States.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    -The War of 1812 began when the United States declared war on Britain. -A sole reason for the wore being fought was conflict between ships and sailors between the US and Britain.

    -On October 5, 1813, Tecumseh was killed in the Battle of Thames -His death ultimately led to his Native confederacy collapsing.

    -The Hartford Convention was the meeting of many Federalist delegates to discuss grievances they had with the Federal government. -It was also to discuss issues they had with the currently ongoing War of 1812.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    -The Treaty of Ghent was the treaty to end the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. -It also restored all territories and properties that were taken from the other side during war.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    -The War of New Orleans was the last major battle of the War of 1812 before it ended. -The Battle was still fought between the United States and Britain despite it being after the Treaty of Ghent.
