  • Teething

    Teething
Francis got his first tooth at about the 5th month.I noticed increase in saliva and also he could cough frequently.Teething is a period whereby babies feel pain and discormfort due to their new teeth breaking through their gums (pg.130).Basically time frame varies for teething between 5 and 9 months.(pg.130).Francis could put his own hands or anything in his mouth and bite.I understand this happens so that he can soothe himself from the pressure under his gums.
  • Reflex-Babinski

    Reflex-Babinski
I noticed some reflexes with my son Francis as he was growing up.A reflex is an automatic response to certain kinds of stimulation. At about the age of 8 month i was really fascinated by babinski ,this is a reflex where if you stroke the sole of a baby,s foot he fans out the toes(pg.194).I enjoyed doing this reflex with Francis.
  • First words

    First words
Francis got me surprised when he pronounced his word ma'..ma'.First words are somehow spoken at around the age of 10 to 14 months but some can start as early as 9 months. These first words are often holophrases meaning one word utterance that stands for a whole phrase(pg.156-157).
  • Joint attention

    Joint attention
At about the age of 10 months i learned that Francis could nolonger look to an object for longer periods instead he only pays attention to what am doing or any other adult aruond him.Joint attention is whereby babies direct their attention not just to whatever sensations are most stimulating but to what people around them are attending to (pg.153).
  • overextension

    overextension
At the age of about one year i noticed that Francis could use one word to represent anything that looks like it.For example he could call any animal that has fur a dog.Overtension is illustrated in the text book pg.194 as the use of single word to represent a variety of related objects.
  • social refencing

    social refencing
When my son turned about 9 months he could express himself more clearly like you could tell he was able to read someone else's facial expression for example he knew that mom is happy when i had a smile on.This is social refencing the intentional search for information about others feelings to help explain the meaning of uncertain circumstances or events.P.g 166
  • self-recognition

    self-recognition
When Francis was growing up,it was fun to play together.Whenever there was a mirror infront of him he used to think the reflection was another baby playing with us.But bythe time he reached about 18 months he was able to tell the reflection was him. This concept is self-recognition.pg.203
  • deffered imitation

    deffered imitation
At about the age of 19 months my son Francis started to imitate what he had seen from other people for example he could pretend he is driving a car simply because he saw someone else doing it.This is known as deffered imitation an act whereby a person who is no longer present is imitated by children who have witnessed a similar act.Pg.188
  • conservation

    conservation
At around the age of 4 i noticed my son as he is growing in all aspects of growth he was still not able to differentiate quantity.A good example was when i used two different glasses so that my son could share a drink with his cousin.used the same measurement to put juice in their glasses but since one glass was taller my son asked why am giving his cousin more juice than him. This concept is known as conservation where the knowledge of quantity is unrelated to physical looks.pg.242
  • personal fable

    personal fable
Now Francis is turning to a young man he is in his adolescent stage. We are having issues now and then.He always wants to do what you tell him not to do claiming that he is careful and nothing can happen to him.For example going out at night and driving while drinking .This stage is personal fable.p.g.359.
