    In 1961 Germany divided East from West. East Germany began building the wall that prevents free passage between the East and West Germany. The Berlin Wall was known to being the "iron curtain" that split Europe and was an iconic symbol of The Cold War.

    On this day in 1962 the U.S. U-2 spy planes discovered Soviet Union missle bases in Cuba with the intended target of some major U.S. cities. A few days later President Kennedy enforced a naval quarentine of Cuba to prevent any Soviet Union ships from trasnporting anymore weapons to Cuba.

    In November 1989 East Germany allowed for unrestricted migration to West Germany. Just a month later in December the Berlin Wall was demolished.

    On this day in 1991 the Soviet Union was abolished and the Communist party was demolished. Boris Yeltsin becomes President of Russia.
