    magic lanterns were placing pictures infront of a lantern and and the light would display the image (like a projector)

    created by several different inventors in the early 1800's. This was a plate sized slotted disk with sequences of images that when spun, the person looking though the slots of this device saw a moving image. similar to modern day GIF's
  • Zoetrope

    it was a bowl like device with a strip of drawings around the interior circumference. When the bowl was spun, the viewer looked through slots where you could see a moving image. similar to the Phenakistoscope
  • Thaumatrope

    it was created by John Ayrton in Paris. it was a round card attached to a string, while one side was a a picture of a horse and the other a picture of a man in a riding position. When the card was spun, it seem as if the man was riding the horse.

    created by Emile Reynaud. It was almost the exact same things as the Zoetrope only it used mirrors

    made a wager that a horse's feet are all four up in the air when it runs, took a line of 12 cameras and had each one click in sequence when the horse ran by (he won the bet). but he discovered that when you view the images rather quickly, it looks just like the horse was running

    the 1930's are considered the golden age of hollywood, a simple reason is because this era was the first era that actually had sound recorded on the film

    this era didnt make as many movies, due to the out break of war, and the attack of pearl harbor. but later it made a recovery, with advancements in sound, and the advancement in adding color to the movies

    in the 1950's, movie attendance decreased due to the development of the television, and this was the birth of NBC, one of the major channels of the time nationwide
