    history of youtube In late 2004, and early 2005, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim all left PayPal to start the new site YouTube, where videos are uploaded by users.

  • YouTube Created

    YouTube Info YouTube was created by three former PayPal employees on February in 2005. This forever created the way people watched videos with this new easy to view and navigate site of user uploaded videos.

  • Top Video Page Added

    Wikipedia On Youtube On July 2005, the top videos page on youtube was added which shows the videos that were most popular on the very first page of youtube.

  • Stars Rating System Added

    Stars Rating System In Augest of 2005, a stars rating system was implemented onto videos so users could rate the video that they had watched on a scale of 1 to 5.

  • Playlists Added

    Playlists In October of 2005, playlists were added to YouTube which allowed the user to combine multiple videos together and create a playlist of their liking.

  • Fullscreen View Added

    Fullscreen View In October of 2005, a fullscreen view was added to allow the user to make the video take up their whole screen as a way of watching the video without having it be small and hard to see.

  • Subscriptions Added

    Subscriptions Subscriptions were added to YouTube in October of 2005 which allowed the user to subscribe to their favorite people who put out content, and know when they put up a new video or do something.

  • Personalized Profiles

    Profiles Profiles had been implemented before, but were not able to be personalized. This update allowed users to add things to their profile to further personalize it to their liking and style.

  • 10 Minute Video Limit

    Video Limit A 10 minute video limit was added to the site in March of 2005 allowed users to upload videos of up to 10 minutes on their site.

  • Phone Uploading

    Phone Uploading In May of 2005, YouTube added phone uploading capability to their site allowing their users to upload videos from their phones, no longer having to go through the pain of changing the file to their computer and then uploading it.

  • Viewing History

    Viewing History YouTube added a viewing history in June allowing the user to view their own and others history of videos that they had viewed on the YouTube site.

  • Google Buys Out Youtube

    YouTube Gets Bought By Google On October 9th, 2006, YouTube announced that it would be boughten out by Google for $1.65 billion in stock.

  • Person of the Year

    Person of Year YouTube was elected person of the year in 2006 by Time Magazine, featuring a big YouTube screen with a large mirror on its front page.

  • Language Options

    Language In June of 2007, YouTube added the option of users to change the language of the site to that of their local area.

  • 480p Videos

    480p YouTube allowed videos to be uploaded in 480p in March of 2008, which makes the videos clearer and nicer to look at. The previouis 240p did not look nice and was not as clear as 480p.

  • 720p

    720p In November of 2009, videos in 720p were able to be uploaded furthering the quality of videos on the site.

  • Sound Recognition

    Sound YouTube released a sound regocnition capability to its site in December of 2009 which allowed the user to navigate the site only by speaking.

  • Vevo Launch

    Vevo Launch Vevo was launched on YouTube on December in 2009 which premeired famous peoples songs and art posted to YouTube.

  • Thumbs Rating System

    Thumbs The star rating system was abolish by YouTube and replaced by a thumbs rating system, the user was able to give the video a thumbs up, or a thumbs down, depending on whether they liked the video or not.

  • Feature Film Rental

    Film YouTube allowed the user to download featured films on their site for a set price, instead of going to the movies or waiting for the DVD to come out.
