    In 1876, after the family returned to St. Petersburg, V. I. Vernadsky entered the third grade of the First St. Petersburg Classical Gymnasium.

    In 1881-1885, he studied at the Natural Sciences Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Imperial St. Petersburg University.

    He was a doctor of geognosy and mineralogy.
    On March 17, 1906, he was elected an associate of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in the Department of Physics and Mathematics (mineralogy).
    On April 18, 1908, he was elected an extraordinary academician in mineralogy. Since March 16, 1912-ordinary academician.
    In 1911, he worked at the Geological Museum of the Imperial Academy of Sciences.

    On December 25, 1944, V. I. Vernadsky suffered a massive stroke.
    On January 6, 1945, he died in Moscow.
    He was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
