    Vladmir Lenin Vladimir became the first Russian Communist Leader. He issued the Decree on Peace and the Decree on land. The Decree on Peace requsted peace between countries in WW1. The Decree on land took away all private owenership on land so that land could become the property of everyone and should be used by the people who farm on it. The government, he made,gave the peasants rights. Died January 21 1924.

    The beginning of the Soviet Union or USSR started with Vladmir Lenin, who was the first leader and a great on at that. The USSR fell apart a day after Mikhail Gorbachev resigned.

He made the soviet union go from a peasant society into an industrial and military superpower.He had many of his enemies and farmers executed or sent to forced labor camps. Stalin made a pact with Hitler of Germany, then later Hitler broke the pact and invaded the soviet union(the countries fought). He wasn't liked by the people of Russia. Died March 5, 1953.

    Alexei Rykov He became Premier after Lenin died. He was removed from office in December 1930 and continued to serve as Peoples Commissar of Communications. His ruling was a short one. In 1938 he was found guilty of treason (something against the country) and was executed. Died March 5, 1938.

    Georgy malenkov Worked along with Joseph Stalin until he died and Malenkov becomae the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (ruler). Malenkov also made several reforms, like, he cancelled additional payments to high political officials and increased the wages of lower workers. Malenkov was forced to resign and was banned from the USSR and the Communist Party and made many attempts to regain his power in the party. Died Jan 14, 1988.

    Nikita KhrushchevWhen Stalin died, Khrushchev became head and first secretary of the Communist Party and one of the most powerful people in the USSR. After the WW2, he helped to rebuild the country. He also led the USSR during part of the Cold War. He started a process called "de-Stalinization,” which got rid of Joseph Stalin’s ideas, plans, and crimes. He approved the construction of the Berlin Wallstarted the Cuban Missile Crisis by placing nuclear weapons by Florida.

    Alexei Kosygin Prime minister at the same time Brezhnev was General Secretary. He served in a collector leadership made up of Lenoid Brezhnev, Anastas Mikoyan, and Nikolai Podgorny. Kosygin made what is known as the Kosygin reform trying to give more independence to factories to have better productivity and quality. Brezhnev opposed Kosygin's reforms which influenced people against him. Died September 18, 1930.

    Leonid Brezhnev Nikita Khrushchev was Brezhnev's mentor and helped him to become more succsesful. He helped lead the Cold War around the 1960s. On paper he shared power with Kosygin, bu he soon became the most powerful man in the USSR. Invested most of the countries resources for military advancements. He signed the arms treaty SALT 2 with Jimmy Carter, but the U.S senate refused to approve it and the USSR invaded Afghanistan. Dies November 10, 1982.

    Yuri Andropov He resigned his position as head of the KGB to become the General secretary of the USSR. Attempted to revive the economy and to reduce corruption and alcoholism. During his time in office, the relationship between U.S and USSR were very bad, because Ronald Regan was president and he was anti-communist. Died in Feburary 1984 due to poor health. Died Feburary 9, 1984

    Konstantin Chemenko When Chermenko took the place as General senator he was already very ill. He wanted Gorbachev to take his place once he died. He negotiated a trade pact with China. He supported trade unions, reforms in education, public opinion, and expanding factory production and services and agriculture. He died March 10, 1985

    Mihail Gorbachev He was the general secretary of the soviet union. Some of Gorbachev's many reforms included: allowing citizens to freely voice their opinions and to travel. Some of his reforms won Nobel Peace Prizes,however many people thought he was making changes to fast. The USSR weakened causing it to lose supporters.He tried to form a new government, but failed. He resigned on December 25, 1991 being the last ruler of the USSR. Still alive and 81.
