  • Naturalization Act of 1790

    Naturalization is auhorized for free white persons who have been in the US for at least 2 years.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    Increased the naturalization requirement for citizenship from 5 to 14 years.
    The rpesident was allowed to deport or imprison any aliens who were considered dangerous.
  • Naturalization Law of 1802

    Repealed the Naturalization Act of 1798
    Directed the clerk of court to record the entry of all aliens into the US
    Gave immigrants a certificate to show when they came and to show that they came legally.
  • Reporting Rule

    It was to keep record of all immigrants.
    When a ship docked, the captain had to submit a document listing all of the immigrants on board.
    There would be an anual report of all the immigrants in the US
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    Prohibited the immigration of all Chinese laborers

    Prohibited the importation and migration of foreigners under contract to perform labor in the US
  • Literacy Requirement

    Anyone condiered "undesirable" was not allowed into the US. This included anyone with illnesses or who was not smart.
    People had to take a literacy test in order to be allowed to enter.

    The number of people allowed to come into the US had to be 2% of the population of the US.
