  • Japanese invasion of Manchuria

    This was a battle with Japan and China. Japan won and resulted in the Tanggu Truce.
  • Hitle made Chancellor of Germany

    Once Hitler became Chancellor he immediately began taking over his neighbors. He relied on using violence to get what he wanted.
  • The Anschluss

    The Anschluss was the annexation of Austria into Germany. It was attempted before but forbidden by the Treat of Versailles. It was important because it made Germany bigger by combining the two.
  • Kristallnacht

    Coordinated attacks by Germany on the jews. 91 jews were killed and 30,000 were arrested in concentration camps. Jewish homes, hospitals, and schools were ransacked. It was so widely reported while it was happening foreign journalists shocked people around the world.
  • Invasion of Poland

    Germany invaded Poland creating the start of WWII. The Allied forces recognized Germany was not going to stop conquering their neighbors so they had had to declare war.
  • Battle of Dunkirk

    The Germans halted their advance to Dunkirk for three days. That gave the allies time to organise an evauations and to build a defensive line. After everything over 300,00 Allied soldiers were rescued.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor was a suprise attack from Japan on the US Pacific fleet. They hit us before we knew it was going to happen. Japan damaged all 8 of the US battleships - sinking 4 of them - and many other ships while killing 2,400 Americans and wounding 1,300. It is important because it is the attack bringing America into the war.
  • Bataan Death March

    A huge march of Filipino and American pisoners by the Japanese. There were about 60 to 80 thousand prisoners. Approximately 7,000 Filipinos and 500 Americans died during the march.
  • Battle of Midway

    It was another naval attack from the Japanese on the United States. The United States dominated the Japanese fleet causing irreparible damage to Japan's navy. It was Japan's worst naval defeat in 350 years.
  • D-Day

    D-Day is the name given for the day of the Normandy Landings. It was the largest amphibious invasion in world histroy. Over 160,000 Allied soldiers invaded Normandy.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    This was the battle with the most casualties for the United States. The battle went through Belgium and France. It was called that because of the way the Aillied front line bulged inward on wartime news maps
  • Yalta Conference

    It was a World War 2 meeting of the heads of government on the Allied side. The meeting was to discuss Europes post-war reorganization.
  • VE Day

    Victory in Europe Day marks the day Germany surrendered. It was the day the Allies beat Germany bringing peace to Europe.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    The Allies dropped the atomice bomb. Used to end the war in Japan.
  • VJ Day

    Victory over Japan Day was the day that Japan surrendered after the United States dropped the Atom bombs ending war with Japan.
