    Haymarket Riot
The Haymarket AffairThe Haymarket Riot was a violent labor uprising in Haymarket Square, Chicago. The demonstration was originally intended as a peaceful rally for an eight hour workday, organized and promoted by (among others) the workers union, the Knights of Labor. During the rally, a bomb was thrown into the crowd, killing a police officer and wounding others; violence ensued. No one knows who was responsible for the bombing, but the Knights of Labor were held accountable, and dissolved soon after.
