  • Brown VS The Board of Education

    On behalf of his daughter, Linda, Oliver Brown, sued the Topeka, Kansas, board of education. This was because Linda was denied enrolment at the school closest to her, as it was not a “black“ school. Brown was represented by Thurgood Marshall, who argued segregated school were harmful, and left black children with feelings of inferiority. The court decided in Browns favour, which paved a path to end segregated schooling.
  • Rose Parks is Arrested

    On December 1st, Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white passenger on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. This simple act sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which lasted eleven months to protest the segregation on the city buses.
  • March on Washington

    On the 28th of August, Martin Luther King Jr. lead a peaceful march of 200,000 to 300,000 people to advocate for the civil and economic rights of African American citizens. It was at this time that King delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech, while hundreds of thousands of people gathered in front fo the Lincoln Memorial.
  • Selma to Montgomery March

    To raise awareness and protest for the right for African-American citizens to vote, protestors peacefully marched from Selma to the state capital of Alabama, Montgomery under the protection of federalised National Guardians Troops. Marchers walked around the clock for three days straight to achieve their goal, but were met with violence from local authorities and white vigilante groups.
