    The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 was passed by the U.S. Congress of May 30th. The Act was fulfilled to repeal the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which forbid slavery north of latitude 36°30'. It also allowed people within the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders.
