  • 10 Percent Plan-

    Lincoln's reconstruction plan. A southern state would be reintegrated into the Union if 10% of its voters in the presidential election of 1860 had pledged an oath of allegiance to the United States and emancipation. It was hated by Republicans.
  • Trumbull's Civil Rights Bill

    Bill that was vetoed by Johnson but overrode by Congress, turned into the Civil Rights Act of 1866
  • Congressional elections of 1866

    Former Confederates were elected to Congress but Congress wouldn't allow them back in because of the Civil War, Republicans ruled Congress but fought with Johnson
  • Johnson's plan

    Mirrored Lincoln's plan but omitted 10% plan, issued Proclamation of Amnesty but Johnson ended up pardoning many former Confederates. Johnson favored quick Reconstruction and wanted former Confederate states to return as soon as possible
  • Ku Klux Klan

    White-supremacist group formed by six former Conferedate officers after the Civil War. Name is essentially Greek for "Circle of Friends". Group eventually turned to terrorist attacks on blacks. The original was disbanded in 1869, but was later resurrected by white supremacists in 1915
  • Civil Rights Act of 1875

    Civil Rights Act of 1875- promised blacks equal access to public accommodations and banned racism in jury selection, provided no means of enforcement and was therefore ineffective, most of this was declared unconstitutional in 1883 by the Supreme Court.
