    British Convicts
    36,000 British Convicts Transported to America after passage of the Transportation. 70% of prisoners were transported to America to work. They thought this wasn't as extreme as hanging but harder then just a fine. This was used for over a hundred years.
  • 1790 Alien Naturalization Act

    1790 Alien Naturalization Act
    This Act was made to make sure all laws were followed by the United States in granting a national citizenship. This Act also set a time length on when a immigrate can file for Citizenship.
  • Congress Reduces Naturalization Residency

    Congress Reduces Naturalization Residency requirements to five years. This happened because Jefferson wanted to completely get rid of residency requirements. Congress believed the it was still very important they only lowered the length.

  • Immigration Law created

    In the 1880's waves of people started to come into the United States, this made economic conditions worse in some areas. Congress didn't have a choice but to pass immigration legislation. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and the Alien Contract Labor Laws of 1885 made it so certain laborers can't immigrate in to the United States.
