  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emnacipation Proclmation on Janurary 1, 1863. The document was issued to elimnate slavery, but it was not successful. This created war between the whites and blacks, resulting in a civil war. In the book To Kill a Mocking Bird, it relates to all the negros in the book. The coloured people rights isn't fully granted, there is some limitations. For example, the seperation between the black and the white church.
  • Ratification of the 13th Amendment

    The ratification of the 13th amendment ended slavery, which was a success. In April 8, 1864 the first votes were 38-6, but later it was beaten by The House of Representatives resulting in 119-56. The amendment was signed by Abraham Lincoln and eventually got ratified on December 18, 1865. The amendment stopped slavery, which affects the book To Kill a Mocking Bird because if the amendement doesn't exist Calpurnia would have continued to be a slave.

    The assassination of Abraham Lincoln is a major event that occured in April 14, 1865. The assassination was done by John WIlkes Booth. He done it since he believed that poverty, hunger, and other negative sides of America was caused by Abraham. The book relates to this event since Abraham Lincoln was the person who saved America. If he was not the president, the people in Maycomb could of had the same rank as the Cunninghams or even worse.

    The Ku Klux Klan was found in 1866, the specific day which the Ku Klux Klan club is unkown. The Ku Klux Klan was a club that is specifically made for the whites in the South, so the blacks in the South won't receive a fair treatment. (Discrimination) In relation to the book, if Calpurnia, Scout and Jem's maid, were in the South, and the Ku Klux Klan was still there, she would have no priveliges of living in a house.

    The 14th Amendment was ratified on July 9, 1868. The 14th Amendment granted citiznship to everyone who were born in America, which includes the blacks. This amendment was disliked by the whites. This act granted the blacks in Maycomb citizenship, if the amendment was not made, they would have been kicked out of the town.

    When the Battleship Maine sinked in Havana Harbor, America declared war on Spain on Feburary 15, 1898. This war ended in December 10, 1898 when the two countries signed a peace treaty. This war was a important event, it provided America a opportunity to create an bigger empire to stop te Spanish from invading, such as the domination of Cuba.

    This event was an important event since it is related to one of the America's president. He was assassinated by a person named Leon Czolgosz. The assassination didn't really success, but the after-effect gangrene. It affected American's history and caused an election for the next president.

    On April 6, 1917, America entered the World War 1. America wished to not get involved, but when Germany announced the unrestricted submarine warfare, which caused a war to rage on. This war affected the story of the book since it caused the Great Depression.

She studied in Huntingdon College, and she pursued a law degree at the University of Alabama. She published To Kill a Mocking Bird during the year 1960 after two years of revising and editing.

Not only it affected America, it had spreaded to other countries in the world, resulting in people losing jobs, and people firing workers. This event is the reason why people in the book is poor, such as the cunnigham family. Almost no one in the town is wealthy.
  • Scottsboro Trial

    The exact date of the Scottsboro trial is unkown since there are several black teens that committed crimes on raping a white women, which then caused them to be sentenced to death. Which they have to live in prison for 75-99 years. The story relates to this since Atticus is defending a black man being accused of raping a white woman.
  • Rosa Parks Bus Ride

    During this day, December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks violated the rules to give a white person a seat, which leads a boycott lead by Martin Luther King Jr. This event happened during the civil rights act movement, which was really important to the civil rights act being passed on 1964.
  • Martin Luther King's Speech

    Martin Luther King's Speech
    This is where the Civil Right Acts movements shine the most. On this day, Martin Luther King Jr. was asked to give a speech. The speech was called "I have a dream", it inspired a lot of people, even the president. John F. Kennedy then asked him what he wished, and Martin Luther King Jr. said he wanted to end the segregation between black and whites.
  • Civil Rights Act

    The Civil Rights Act was passed in July 2, 1964. This Act was enforced to prohibit any discrimination to race, color, reiligion, sex, and national orgin. It removed the Jim Crow laws. The final act that was edited by the house of representatives were passed on Feburary 10, 1964 and got into a voting process. This was creaated to stop the discrimination, such as the one mentioned in the story. The whites hated "negros" and some were even killed.
