Linclon County occupied a fifth of all New Mexico territory. It was the largest county in all of the United States. -
William Brady Elected Sheriff
Irish Immigrant Lawrence G. Murphy owned almost everything including those who got elected Sheriff or ran for political office. Murphy chose his friend to be Sheriff of Licoln County. -
John Henry Tunstall comes to New Mexico
William G. Murphy owned much of the land in Lincoln County. Until a man named John Henry Tunstall came into the county and bought land. He opened a ranch and opened a store in Lincoln County. -
Billy the Kid enters New Mexico
Billy the kid enters New Mexico with a different name. He used the name William Bonney. But his life would olnly last four more years but in that time he would become a big legend. -
Lincoln County War Begins
Sheriff Brady and his posse shot and killed Tunstall. When this happened the Lincoln County War had begun. -
Sheriff Brady killed
Two months after Tunstall was killed Billy the Kid and other cowboys took revenge. They ambushed Sheriff Brady in front of Tunstall's store and killed Brady. After this happened more and more violence was breaking out. -
Billy The Kid
Billy the Kid goes around killing people and making this war worse. He starts to run from the law and tries not to get caught. He runs away from people and becomes an outlaw. -
Shootouts
Many people were starting to kill other people. They would murder them or have a shootout. During the Lincoln County War more and more people were dying. -
More War
War was continuing to break out and it seemed to have no end in sight. A total of thirty graves were dug in three months. Billy the Kid only made things worst. -
Pat Garret New Sheriff
Pat Garret was chosen as the new sheriff of Lincoln County . He was chosen because people thought he would bring peace to Lincoln County through these hard times. -
Billy the Kid Captured
Billy the Kid was finally captured after two years of running. He was captured and sent to Lincoln County jail. He was supposed to be hung soon after his arrival into the jail but Billy the Kid was breaking out. -
Billy the Kid Dead
Pat Garret recieved word of the kids whereabouts and got two deputies to follow him. Billy the Kid was getting food and went back into his friends he was staying at. When he walked in he walked all the way to his bed without knowing the sheriff was right next to him. The Sheriff fired two shots but the second was useless because Billy the Kid was already dying. On that night Billy the Kid died, along with his many victims who he killed before. -
Billy the Kids Grave
Billy the Kid was finally dead after two years of running. He was shot once and was dead. He died along with his many victims he had killed. Billy the Kid is buried at Fort Sumner.
