  • Forest Reserve Act of 1891

    Law that allowed the President to set aside forest reserves in the land from public domain.
  • Lacey Act

    Conservation law that prevents trade in wildlife, fish, and plants that have been illegally taken, possessed, transported, or sold. One of the earliest laws in the U.S. that prohivits the transport of game across state lines.
  • Antiquities Act

    Passed by Theodore Roosevelt, gave the President the power to create monuments from public lands to protect natural or cultural scientific features.
  • Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act

    Preventing manufacture, sale, or transportation of adulterated or misbranded Paris greens, lead arsenates, and other insecticides.
  • National Park Service Act

    United States federal law passed that established the National Park Service, an agency of the Department of Interior.
  • Migratory Bird Act

    Implement the convention for the protection of migratory birds between the US and Great Britain.
  • Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act

    Requires waterfowl hunter 16 years or older to posses a valid Federal hunting stamp, receipts then deposited in a special Treasury account.
  • Taylor Grazing Act

    Provides the regulation of grazing on the public lands to improve rangeland conditions and regulate their use.
  • Soil Conservation Act of 1935

    Act passed after the Dust Bowl which controlled and prevented the wastage of land/soil in order to avoid disasters similar to the Dust Bowl.
  • Price-Anderson Act

    Regulates liability related issues for all non-military nuclear facilities constructed in the US before 2026.
  • Clean Air Act

    Act passed to improve, strengthen, and accelerate programs for the prevention and abatement of air pollution.
  • Wilderness Act

    Created the legal definition of wilderness in the US, also it protected 9.1 million acres.
  • Land and Water Conservation Act

    Provide funds for the acquisition of land and water, and easements on it. Used to benefit all Americans.
  • Marine Mammal Protection Act

    Prohibits the killing of all marine mammals in the U.s and as well as the import and export of any marine mammal body parts.
  • Water Pollution Control Act

    (Clean Water Act) Federal law pass governing water pollution, objective to restore and maintain chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the nation's water.
  • Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species

    An international agreement the controls the trade of threatened plants and animals between 175 countries.
  • Endangered Species Act of 1973

    Serves as the enacting legislation, designed to protect critically imperiled species from extinction. This authorizes the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service to determine which species are threatened or endangered and makes acts protecting them. It also allows for the government to purchase habitats that is critical to the species.
  • Safe Drinking Water Act

    Federal law to ensure safe drinking water for all the public.
  • Resource Recovery Act

    Give EPA the authority to control hazardous waste. This includes the generation, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act

    US governing the disposal of solid waste and hazardous waste. Enacted due to the growing mas of municipal and industrial waste.
  • Comprehensice Environment Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980

    United States Federal Law designed to clean up sites contaminated with hazardous substances and pollutants.
  • Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species

    A treaty that protects biodiversity through means of conservation, sustainable use, and equitably share the benefits from the commercial use of resources. Measured by the habitat analysis and management. HSI accounts for the animal species giving recommendations on how close to an area a species should be. Animal species are measured to assess population sizes and document life.
