    It is a social welfare legislative act which created the Social Security system in the United States. WIthout this act many elder people in America would struggle to stay afloat.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act

    Fair Labor Standards Act
    The FLSA introduced the forty-hour work week, established a national minimum wage, guaranteed "time-and-a-half" for overtime in certain jobs, and prohibited most employment of minors in "oppressive child labor", a term that is defined in the statute.With out this act many employers would take advantage of their employs.

    It is a United States federal law amending the Fair Labor Standards Act, aimed at abolishing wage disparity based on sex. This act was a step in the direction of women rights so that women would not be discriminated against in the work place,
  • Clean Air Act

    Clean Air Act
    to control air pollution on a national level. It requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and enforce regulations to protect the public from airborne contaminants known to be hazardous to human health.There have been many amendments since it was first signed into law. This would affect factories in the US because they would have to follow certain regulations that the EPA puts in place. If we did not have this act today our air would be a lot worse then it is today.

The objective of this act is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the nation's waters by preventing point and nonpoint pollution sources, providing assis. Without this act our water would not be as clean as it is today.
  • Endangered Species Act

    Endangered Species Act
    it was designed to protect critically imperiled species from extinction as a "consequence of economic growth and development untampered by adequate concern and conservation." The Act is administered by two federal agencies, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This act helps keep endangered animals from being killed by people.

    Employee Retirement Income Security Act
    It is a federal law that establishes minimum standards for pension plans in private industry and provides for extensive rules on the federal income tax effects of transactions associated with employee benefit plans. ERISA was enacted to protect the interests of employee benefit plan participants and their beneficiaries. With out this act social security would not be were it is today.

    This act establishes a Code of Fair Information Practice that governs the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of personally identifiable information about individuals that is maintained in systems of records by federal agencies. Without this act your informattion could be anywhere.
  • Resource Recovery and Conservation Act

    Resource Recovery and Conservation Act
    governing the disposal of solid waste and hazardous waste. An Act to provide technical and financial assistance for the development of management plans and facilities for the recovery of energy and other resources from discarded materials and for the safe disposal of discarded materials, and to regulate the management of hazardous waste. With out this act our envorment would be very polluted, even more then it is today.

     Employee Polygraph Protection Act
    It is a United States federal law that generally prevents employers from using polygraph (lie detector) tests, either for pre-employment screening or during the course of employment, with certain exemptions.
  • Drug-Free Workplace Act

    Drug-Free Workplace Act
    This act requires some federal contractors and all federal grantees to agree that they will provide drug-free workplaces as a condition of receiving a contract or grant from a federal agency. The Act does not apply to those that do not have, nor intend to apply for, contracts/grants from the federal government. The Act also does not apply to subcontractors or subgrantees. WIthout this act employes could bring drugs to their work place.
  • Family and Medical Leave Act

    It is a labor law requiring larger employers to provide employees unpaid leave for serious health conditions, to care for a sick family member, or to care for a newborn or adopted child. With out this act many families would struggle through tough times.
