Paul Karl Feyerabend (January 13 1924 - February 11 1994)

  • Began Teaching

    Feyerabend began giving lectures at the University of Bristol in England. This marks the start of many years of teaching for Feyerabend. His lectures were on the subject of philosophy of science. Feyerabend's view on philosophy was highly influenced by Karl Popper at the time and his lectures reflected this.
  • Publication of Against Method: Outline of an Anarchistic Theory of Knowledge

    Feyerabend published his book Against Method. Feyerabend had initially planned to write a piece with Imre Lakatos in which Lakatos would defend a rationalist view of science and Feyerabend would attack it. Unfortunately Lakatos passed therefore only Feyerabend's half was completed. What was originally going to be a dialogue volume became a famous criticism of philosophical views. Feyerabend, Paul K.   • Publication of Science in a Free Society

    In this book, Feyerabend reviews the controversy of his previous work Against Method. He extends his critique beyond the problem of scientific rules and methods, to the social function and direction of science today. Feyerabend, Paul K. Science in a Free Society. Verso, 1978.
  • Publication of Killing Time: The Autobiography of Paul Feyerabend

    The autobiography of Feyerabend was published. Being finished only weeks before his death, this would make the final work by Feyerabend. In this book Feyerabend talked about many things including his thoughts and ideals of philosophy, and how his status as a philosopher and what other philosophers thought of him affected him.
