Thomas Samuel Kuhn was born in Cincinnati Ohio to his father Samuel Louis Kuhn, an industrial engineer and investment consultant, and his mother Minette Kuhn, a freelance editor and unpaid writer of articles (Famous Scientists, 2017). -
The Structure of Scientific Revolutions
Thomas Kuhn published a book titled the Structure of Scientific Revolutions. Within it Kuhn describes his views on the history of science. This included his model of the phases science goes through. Pre-paradigmatic, normal science, crisis, scientific revolution, and finally the paradigm shift. He's is most well known for the concepts of paradigm shifts. Paradigms are the rules and theories that we just assume to be true.

Commensurable?
Thomas Kuhn's book also talked about incommensurability. This is a term he developed to mean that each paradigm cannot be compared to another. "Consequently, comparison between theories will not be as straightforward as the standard empiricist picture would have it, since the standards of evaluation are themselves subject to change" (Bird, 2018). The way that the original paradigms were viewed are different to those of the new one

Death
Thomas Kuhn died in Cambridge, Massachusetts at the age of 73. He had been diagnosed with lung and throat cancer in 1994, ultimately becoming his cause of death (Famous Scientists, 2017).
