    Thomas Kuhn was an American philosopher of science. He was born on the 18th of july, 1922 to Minette S. Kuhn and Samuel L. Kuhn. Thomas Kuhn had spouses at different points in time. He had three children. Thomas Kuhn died on the 6th of June 1996 after been diagnosed with lung cancer two years earlier.

    Thomas Kuhns Education with dates from his high school years

    Kuhn started his early education at Lincoln school a private progressive school in Manhattan and Hessian Hills school in a small town in New York after his family moved. He graduated from The Taft school in 1940.He went to Harvard college and obtained a Bsc degree in physics in 1943. Kuhn went ahead to obtain his Msc and PhD degrees in Physics in the same Harvard in 1946 and 1949 respectively. Harvard played a crucial role in him switching from physics to the history and philosophy of science.

    Kuhns Career

    Kuhn taught at Harvard in a course of history of science from 1948 to1956. He left to university of California,Berkeley to teach in both the philosophy and history department.At Berkeley he wrote his most influential work in.In 1964 he joined Princeton University as the Professor of Philosophy and History of Science. He was the president of the History of Science Society from 1969 to 1970.In 1979 he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the Professor of Philosophy until 1991.
  • Notable Works and Contribution

    In 1962,Kuhn wrote his most influential work The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. In this book, Kuhn argued that science doesn’t progress through a linear accumulation of knowledge but through revolutions that occur from time to time. He referred to the whole process as paradigm shift. Paradigm shift as explained by Thomas Kuhn is an important change that happens when the usual way of thinking about or doing something is replaced by different ways. He argued science goes through four stages.
