Thomas Samuel Kuhn was born in Cincinnati, Ohio.
-
From kindergarten to fifth grade, Thomas was educated at Lincoln School, a private school where independent thinking was prioritized.
-
Kuhn graduated with a Bachelor's degree in physics.
-
In the summer of 1943, Kuhn joined the Radio Research Laboratory’s theoretical group. Based at Harvard, his group was tasked with devising countermeasures against enemy radar. He was soon sent to work in a laboratory in the United Kingdom.
-
After the war, Kuhn returned to college to obtain his master's and Ph.D.
-
The Copernican Revolution is published. Thomas Kuhn examines the development of the heliocentric theory of the solar system during the Renaissance.
-
"The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" is published this year. The book discusses the process in which scientific progress is made. Kuhn argues that paradigm shifts occur within the scientific community when too many anomalies occur within the current paradigm. When the shift occurs, what is perceived as "normal science" is replaced by a more probable scientific theory. Attached is a video that explains his theory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQPsc55zsXA
-
Thomas Kuhn singlehandedly changed the way in which scientific progress is perceived. The fact that today, reading Kuhn's theory seems obvious shows how successful his work is.
-
Thomas Kuhn dies in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
