  • 1914 BCE

    Ukrainian Canadian internment

    Canada went to war with Austria and about 4,000 Ukrainian men and some women and children were kept in 24 interment camps and related work sites. almost all were released and became paid farmers, miners and railway workers.
  • Chinese head tax

    was a tax given to the Chinese people to discourage them after the CP railway was constructed. The tax was abolished in 1923 because of the Chinese immigration act.
  • Komagata maru incident

    was a steam ship in 1914 carrying 352 passengers that were not allowed to disembark Canada and only 24 of the other passengers were allowed to enter Canada so the ship had to turn around and head back to India.
  • Interment of Italian candians

    Minister of Justice, Ernest Lapointe, signed the order that made thousands of Italian-Canadians as enemys and about 500 men and four women were eventually interned as enemys. In addition, 100 Italian seamen, who were in Canadian waters on 10 June 1940, were also subject to internment
