Peter's little sister, Jenny, told him that Grandpa would be moving in with them because he was lonely after Grandma died.
-
Peter's parents told him that when Grandpa moved in, he would be moving into his room. This meant Peter would be relocated to the guest bedroom in the attic, which was located on the third floor
-
Peter had to help his dad move everything from his room to the guest bedroom. He did not like saying goodbye to his room, especially since that is the room he had been in since he was born.
-
Peter's grandpa moved in with them and moved all of his belongings into his room.
-
After Grandpa moved in Peter realized that he wasn't the same. He was sad and seemed somewhat depressed. All he did was sit around the house and stare. He didn't seem to be the same Grandpa he remembered.
-
Peter shared his feelings with his friends. His friends encourage him to go to war with his grandpa to get his room back. After all, he had taken something that belonged to Peter
-
Peter decided that he would take his friends' advice. He wrote a note to Grandpa explaining that they were now at war. He was requesting Grandpa return his room or else!!!
-
Peter waited several days for Grandpa to acknowledge the note, but he never did. He finally convinced Grandpa to take a walk with him. On the walk, Peter asked Grandpa if he received the note. Grandpa admitted to receiving the note, but said he though it was a joke. After all, you don't go to war with your relatives. Peter told him that it wasn't a joke and to watch his back.
-
Peter woke up in the middle of the night, crept downstairs to Grandpa's room (his old room), and took Grandpa's slippers. He decided this would be the first of many attacks.
-
When Grandpa woke in the morning, he discovered his slippers were missing. He knew right away who must have played the trick on him. He went upstairs to Peter's room and found them laying in his closet. Peter was mad at himself for not hiding the slippers. Once again he warned Grandpa that the war was not over.
-
When Peter and his friends were playing games, they asked him how the war was going. Peter told them everything that had happened. His friends suggested he do awful things to Grandpa, like burn his underwear, but Peter didn't want to do anything too mean. However, he told his friends he had not surrendered.
-
Peter continued to play little tricks on Grandpa. One day when he and Grandpa were taking a walk Peter asked him if he was ready to surrender and give him his room back. During the conversation Peter spoke very disrespectful to Grandpa. The disrespect coupled with the ongoing pranks had gone too far, and Grandpa raised his hand and slapped Peter across the face. Peter was stunned. He turned his back and ran while shouting "I'll get you back for this!"
-
Grandpa realized he shouldn't have taken his frustration out on Peter. He had been so sad after the death of Grandma, that he forgot how to have fun. He apologized to Peter and suggested the go on a fishing trip together.
-
Peter woke up at 4:00 in the morning to begin his fishing adventures with Grandpa. Grandpa taught him many things about fishing. He had a great time!
-
Even though Peter had a great time fishing, he knew that the war must continue if he was ever going to get his room back. Through the night, Peter sneaked into Grandpa's room and stole his watch. In the morning, Grandpa was disappointed that their time together on the lake didn't stop the war. He explained to Peter that his watch was very special because Grandma had given it to him as an anniversary present. Peter told Grandpa that he'd keep it safe until the war was over.
-
Now that Grandpa had realized he could have a little fun with the war, he took the pieces from Peter's Monopoly Game (Peter's favorite game) while Peter was at school. When Peter discovered his pieces were missing, he was angry, but kind of excited that Grandpa was finally fighting back.
-
Peter and Grandpa continued playing pranks on each other until one day Peter decides that war is not longer fun. Although it was fun while it lasted, he was tired of the pranks.
-
Peter and Grandpa sat down and talked about solutions to the problem. In the end they decided that Grandpa would use his skills as a builder to turn their basement into an apartment. This would not only allow Peter to get his room back, it would also offer Grandpa some privacy.
-
After several weeks of construction, the basement was finally ready for Grandpa to move in. After Peter helped Grandpa move all of his belongings into the basement, Grandpa helped Peter move all of his things back into his room. Peter was so happy that he was finally home at last. He had the best of both worlds, his room back, and his Grandpa close by.
