  • Munich Massacre

    1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Bavaria in southern West Germany. the members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and then killed by the Palestinian group called Black September. The hostage takers demanded the release and safe passage to Egypt of 234 Palestinians and non-Arabs jailed in Israel; these terms were never met. As revenge, Operations Wrath of God and Spring of Youth was organized by Israli leaders.

    Bombing of U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, during the Lebanese Civil War, when two truck bombs struck separate buildings housing United States and French military forces—members of the Multinational Force in Lebanon—killing 299 American and French servicemen. The organization Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the bombing.
  • Lockerbie Bombing

    Pan Am Flight 103 was a flight from London Heathrow Airport to New York's JFK International Airport. The plane was destroyed by a bomb, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members. Eleven people in Lockerbie, in southern Scotland, were also killed as large sections of the plane fell in the town and destroyed several houses, bringing total fatalities to 270.
