A brilliant pair of Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded the technological powerhouse Microsoft. It was impactful, with the recent creation of computers and the introduction of the internet, it created Windows. A designed programmable virtual interface with its purpose of helping every online user to access the internet with ease and safety. Microsoft would violate many antitrust laws in 1998. Raegan is inaugurated. It meant a lot. He showed a more personal relationship between the president and his citizens. He survived an assassination attempt and implemented a new domestic agenda to prevent direct government intervention within personal life. Reaganomics, influenced by the trickledown theory and supply side economics, decrease social and military spending, and deregulating the market would reduce unemployment and inflation that accrued in the 1970s. Ride became the first women to make her journey to space with NASA. With this quote in one of her interviews asking about her preparation for space, "It’s too bad this is such a big deal. It’s too bad our society isn’t further along.," she would urge the push for women in the American society. She spent her missions for scientific observation and research of the earth, and to investigate the 1986 Challenger accident. She and Princess Diana would push women progressivism forward. The Berlin Wall was finally destroyed, reuniting East and West Berlin from the war of capitalism vs. communism. It was a symbol, representing the rivalry between the U.S. and Russia. A symbol representing a global Cold War. 171 people died trying to cross into a world of freedom and capitalism. 5,000 East German soldiers and 600 border guards escaped, while the remaining people of East Berlin suffered, starved, and endured poverty due to their dictatorship government. Over 1,000 with and without disabilities, would march a journey from the White House to the U.S. Capitol. The reason for was to promote a bill to be passed that would eliminate any discrimination and unjustly treatment towards people with disabilities. Lead by 8-year-old Jennifer Keelan, it proved that they needed help, as they couldn't climb an inaccessible architecture due to their misfortune. After passing the ADA, was signed on July 26 by George H.W. Bush. (Little 2020) -
The youngest president known to that time, an icon and popular figure upon the people up took his oath. Clinton in his presidency would pass domestic legislation such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, Violence Against Women Act, and other crime and gun violence, education, environmental and welfare bills to push America forward. In Waco Texas, a package was being delivered full of guns and ammunition to a Christian organization that was anti-government. The driver informed the police and 80 agents assembled to siege the religious compound at Mount Carmel upon investigation of terrorism and child abuse. 75 died, including 25 children and 2 Swat officers in an exchange of gunfire and a fire consuming the compound. Defined as a Clinton-era policy, it was a strategy monopolized by Clinton to favor his second reelection win whilst also dealing with the new revolutionary Republican Congress. It was done through challenging their extreme conservative positions on a variety of domestic issues relating to terrorism, technology, culture, and economy. Y2K, abbreviated for Year 2000, citizens of America viewed it as a technological apocalypse. The prime reason for this scare was because of the new millennium and if computer programs could interpret the last two digits '00' correctly as '19' was taken out for short and faster data context as a two-digit code. A revolutionary republican party, with majority of the House and aspiration to remove Clinton had a choice. Impeach him and suffer social standing or keep him and strive to win the next election. The House filed 2 articles and 18 boxes of documents of Clinton's sexual affair with 21-year-old unpaid intern of the White House, Monica Lewinsky. 19 militant associates from the Islamic group of al Qaeda, would hijack four airplanes and commit two horrific terrorist attacks against the United States. The first plane hitting the first tower of the World Trade Center within New York City, the second hitting the next tower causing demolition and tragedy for everyone. On March 19, 2003, George W. Bush declares and initiates war on Iraq British coalition support. The goal was to "free the people and give freedom to Iraq," as stated by Bush in his televised address. Explosion, harassment and torture of innocent civilians, wrongful abductions, accusations. Many war crimes were committed by U.S. military soldiers in retaliation to 9/11 and terrorism. Another tragic event to amplify the importance of gun control and police proactivity within America. On the campus grounds of Virginia Tech, a student named Seung-Hui Cho, gunned down 32 people before committing suicide. The police surrounded within minutes, but waited for 2 hours until finally acting, which was when Cho took his life. Days later, NBC News received letters and videos sent from Cho who discriminated the wealthy, and evidentially mental struggles. (“Virginia Tech Shooting” 2021) -
With Democratic retaining majority in the House and Senate during the 2008 election, Obama becomes the first black president of the U.S. With the economic recession at hand, Obama promised to heal, but also gave a new perspective that America is still a place where all hope and hard work can be concentrated to achieve everything possible.
