  • Freedmen's Bureau

    Freedmen's Bureau
    The Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands referred to as Freedmen's Bureau was used to protect the newly freed slaves in the South. The Bureau wanted former plantation owners to rebuild their plantations, African Americans to get employed, and made blackes and whites work together as emplyees. For many of the plantation owners, it was harder than thought it would be to work together.

    The act of building something again. A time period after the Civil War in which the south rejoined the union and rebuilt its society.
  • End of Civil War (Appomattox)

    End of Civil War (Appomattox)
    There were economic, political, and social problems with the government. While on their way to Virginia, their supplies and food were cut short. John B. Gordon attacked Lee's union and quickly Lee wrote a letter informing he was surrendering.
  • Abraham Lincoln Assassination

    Abraham Lincoln Assassination
    Abraham Lincolm was assassinated at the Fords Theatre by John Wilkes Booth. He was shot in the head in a private box and he dired the next day. Booth got away but was cornered and caught by police officers.
  • 13th Amendment Ratified

    13th Amendment Ratified
    This ratification came eight months after the end of the war. Lincoln believed that an amendment would end slavery. The Amendment had seven votes above the usual two-thirds majority.
  • 14th Amendment Ratified

    14th Amendment Ratified
    All of the Southern state legislatures, except Tennessee which refused to ratify, this led to the Recontruction Acts. The Congress Declared that the amendment was part of the Congress. It forbids states fron denying any person born in the U.S.
  • Henry McNeal Turner elected to Senate

    Henry McNeal Turner elected to Senate
    He was the first black male to be elected to Senate. Turner is from Bibb County and was a preacher. He was disliked for his many radical positions.
  • 15th Amendment Ratified

    15th Amendment Ratified
    This amendment allowed African males the right to vote. African-Americans joined with white allies in the Southern states to elect the Republican Party. Confederate states had been readmitted to the Union and were mostly controlled by the republican party.Many revels and a dozen other black men served in Congress during Reconstruction.
  • Georgia Readmitted to the Union

    Georgia Readmitted to the Union
    Georgia Was the last state to be readmitted to the union. Soon after, Democrats took control of Georgia's government. Georgia was in reconstruction in 1865.
  • Election of Rutherford B. Hayes

    Election of Rutherford B. Hayes
    His election ended reconstruction. The Republican Party was in trouble in the 1870's, until he was elected. When he won the election the economic depression stopped.
