The first telegraphic message was sent over 40 miles from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The telegraph helped make communication more streamlined, and would push the letter almost entirely out of the communication world, at least, as far as urgency was concerned. -

The creation of the telephone revolutionized communication, and would be the nail in the coffin for letters being correspondence. The telephone would result in many mail carriers being put out of business. -

The World Wide Web allows the internet to become easy to access, allowing for more communication faster than ever. Letters become more obsolete, and telephone companies have to find more ways to appeal to customers or lose out on their business. -
