However, the fiancé was eliminated, and she was allowed to marry Minamoto No Yoritomo.

Despite the death of the prince, who died when the fighting started, he succeeded in persuading the feudal lords in the eastern provinces. Many members of the Taira Clan also joined under Yoritomo's flag. because they were disappointed with their meagre rewards.

This was extremely successful, as the emperor was someone who liked to play off others, allies, supporters, enemies, and family. The emperor asked Minamoto No Yoritomo for help. Yoritomo immediately put a stop to his cousin's conquest, and established the Kumonjo (the board of books) and the Monchujo (the board of questioning), setting up not only a military but also an independent government in the east.

Quickly the Shugo and the Jito became feudal lords, due to there rise in power. Through these actions Yoritomo was able to undermine the governments administrative power.
